Yankees spring training: Gary Sanchez keeps homering

Observations from the Yankees’ spring training game Tuesday.

Cranking Up

Gary Sanchez continues to hit moon shots this spring. He hit another blast in a 6-5 loss Tuesday against Detroit left-hander Daniel Norris, this one struck halfway up a light tower beyond the left-field fence. It was Sanchez’s third homer of the spring — including the one he hit over the batter’s eye in center at Steinbrenner Field.

“It was very impressive, but something we expect out of Gary,’’ Aaron Hicks said. “He’s a great power hitter and I’m excited for this year.”

Cessa and Desist

Luis Cessa allowed a three-run homer to Willi Castro in his lone inning of work. It’s the second home run given up by the right-hander in just three appearances this spring.

Caught My Eye

DJ LeMahieu and Gleyber Torres turned a pair of double plays in the middle of the infield in the first two innings.

Wednesday’s Schedule

The Yankees host the Pirates at 6:35 p.m. in Tampa. Aaron Boone said Chad Green and Aroldis Chapman are scheduled to pitch their first games of the spring.
