The Yankees’ catching depth took a hit Thursday, as Robinson Chirinos was diagnosed with a fractured right wrist after being hit by a pitch Wednesday.
The team said Dr. Daniel Murphy and team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad consulted and reviewed imagery. Wrist and hand specialists will be consulted in the coming days to determine best next steps.
Chirinos, 36, signed a minor league contract with the Yankees in February after spending the end of the 2020 season with the Mets. The Yankees have Gary Sanchez and Kyle Higashioka above Chirinos on the depth chart.
