Mets spring training: Edwin Diaz looking electric

Observations from the Mets’ spring training game Tuesday.

Lights Out

Edwin Diaz had a second straight electric performance to begin the spring with a scoreless third inning that included two strikeouts in the Mets’ 5-3 exhibition victory over the Cardinals in Port St. Lucie.

Sam the Butcher

Sam McWilliams narrowly avoided disaster in a 31-pitch ninth inning in which he walked the bases loaded. McWilliams escaped without a run scoring for his second save this spring.

Caught My Eye

Patrick Mazeika, part of the organization’s depth at catcher, received a look at first base late in the game.

Wednesday’s Schedule

The Mets have a blank day on the Grapefruit League slate, but will hold a workout at their spring training complex.
