The ACC will become the first major conference to tip off its postseason tournament as the prelude to March Madness 2021 begins.
While teams such as Virginia, Florida State and Virginia Tech have safe spots in the NCAA Tournament, others like Syracuse, North Carolina and Duke will need to perform well in Greensboro to secure a March Madness bid. For the Blue Devils, it may take a championship to get them to the dance.
It looked like Florida State was on the cusp of its second consecutive league title and the No. 1 seed entering Saturday’s final slate of regular season games. Instead, the Seminoles dropped an 83-73 decision at Notre Dame to pave the way for Virginia to steal the regular season title.
It’s the Cavaliers’ third league title in the last four years, albeit sharing one with North Carolina in 2019.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, even the bluest of blue bloods are at risk of not even making the tournament.
